Corlis Gross is in her second season as an assistant coach in 2018-19 after joining the Drexel Rowing staff in the summer of 2017.
In her first season with the Dragons, Gross helped guide the women’s team to a second straight team title at the George Washington Invitational, key victories at the Kelly Cup, a sixth consecutive Dad Vail Regatta overall title, a second straight women’s title at the Dad Vail Regatta and a second-place finish overall at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships. She also accompanied the women’s crew to England for the Henley Women’s Regatta. Working primarily with the fours, Gross helped coach the women’s varsity four to gold medals at the Murphy Cup, Kerr Cup and Kelly Cup. The four earned the bronze medal at Eastern Sprints as well as the Dad Vail Regatta. At the 2018 CAA Championships, the varsity four won the program’s first ever gold medal at the conference championships.
Prior to joining Drexel, Gross coached the women’s novice boats for Purdue for two seasons beginning in 2015. There the novice four won the gold medal at the Dad Vail Regatta in 2017, and Gross oversaw the junior varsity four that earned the bronze at the 2017 Dad Vail and the novice eight that took fifth in 2016. She also earned her master’s in health and kinesiology while at Purdue. Before arriving at Purdue, Gross had four previous years of coaching experience at the club level on the East Coast.
Gross is an accomplished rower who competed for Brown where she was a two-time national champion and captained the team her senior year. Over the course of her career in which she was a four-time NCAA qualifier, Gross earned first-place finishes with the junior varsity eight at the NCAA Championships in 2008 and 2010 as well as first-place team finishes at NCAAs in 2007 and 2008. In 2010 as a senior, she earned CRCA Second Team All-Region honors. Following the conclusion of her undergraduate career, Gross won a gold medal at the Head of Charles Regatta in the alumnae eight in 2011 and in the club single in 2015.

Brendan Cunningham is in his first season as an assistant rowing coach after joining Drexel Rowing in August 2018. Cunningham also coordinates recruiting for the men’s team.
Prior to Drexel, Cunningham spent four seasons as an assistant coach of the Penn men’s heavyweight rowing team after joining the staff in the summer of 2014. As the Quakers second assistant, Cunningham worked with the third varsity eight and varsity four boats, while also serving as the Penn Heavyweights Director of Operations.
A 2010 Temple graduate, Cunningham spent the 2013 season prior to arriving at Penn as a volunteer assistant at Yale. The Bulldogs reached the Grand Final at both the IRA National Championships and EARC Sprints that year, finishing sixth overall in the varsity eight at each competition.
As a rower at Temple, Cunningham was a four-year member of the Owls crew team (2006-10). After graduating, Cunningham remained on the Schuylkill River as the novice rowing coach for Lower Merion (Pa.) High School, where he coached athletes new to the sport.
